Written while with Moon Mirror, but can't find a recording. Changed to keyboard version for house concerts. (Tried to emulate Calvin on the bass.) Refers to my best friend deciding we couldn't be lovers, though she was my real love. She was afraid of losing her career and childhood friends.

Lyrics

So dear lady, you’ve been scorned
By every man that you have met since you were born.
And you’ve learned so very well how to be alone.
And we might have loved you well
But it would be so hard to tell
You have made yourself a prisoner in your little home.

Those ain’t walls you’ve built around you, they’re just windows
And we can see right through.
We’re afraid that you would shatter or we’d break the glass
And really get next to you.

You think that lies will set you free
And you keep your secrets so mysteriously
And you think if you hide your love it’ll hide your sin.
Well, now, love was made to give
‘Cause it’s love that helps us live
And I’d hate to see how you treat a stranger if I’m your friend.

Well, you talk about wrong and you talk about right
Then you stop talkin’ long enough to see the light
But it feels so good that it feels like pain
So you turn around and build your walls again.

Why can’t you do what you feel?
You were always strong but you were hardly ever real
Every time truth brought salvation you denied it.
And your wall building: will it ever stop?
You keep building ‘cause you’re scared to reach the top.
And you still believe “truth hurts” but you haven’t tried it.

Those ain’t walls you’ve built around you, they’re just windows
And we can see right through
We’re afraid that you would shatter or we’d break the glass
And really get next to you.
