Slipper and Slim & the New Home Cookin' Band was an offshoot of the "Home Cookin'" Band (before marriage & babies) which was instrumental in the Lee Park (Dallas) movement begun in 1974 to raise bail money for arrested drug offenders. My best friend had been NARCed and was in jail when we decided to do free concerts at Lee Park. This turned into the "Lee Park Riots" years later after we had already left Dallas to go on tour. We met Daniel Gorlo (Gorleaux) in Norman, Oklahoma. Years after that, Daniel had written a plethora of poetry/songs and had a contact with a producer in Connecticut who said he would produce the music if Daniel got a band together. Daniel took a trip to the Midsouth, and gathered a band up which included my husband and I. By the time we got there, Harry Chapin had broken through and Paul Lecca, the producer we were going to work with was backed up with work for Harry and couldn't get to us. We honed the songs in the local Ukrainian Hall, and made our own demo, and this is the result. Members: Darrell (bass), Dan (songwriter, lead vocal, (some) piano, rhythm guitar), Go (harmony vocal, piano & transcription), Sally (drums), Tom (lead guitar, harmony vocal), Megan (lead vocal) . Sally left and we got a new drummer, Michael (see additional promo photo below). After many auditions, parties, open air concerts, we FINALLY got a live gig at the Ridgefield Country Club, which burned down a couple of days before our performance date. Was not meant to be? Until now? Daniel passed in 2010, but gave me permission to take on the distribution of the music.
